Finding and securing a preceptor at any time of year can be a challenge. However, during the holiday season that task becomes even more difficult. Preceptors are out of the office, winding down their practices for the holidays or are just burnt out from a busy, challenging year. For this reason, many are less willing to take students during the holidays.
Here at Clinical Preceptor Rescue, we don’t take your money unless we truly think we can help you. We review your requirements, assess our abilities and then decide whether or not we can help find you the placement you need. We consistently receive heavy influxes of students in desperate need of preceptors during the holidays each year. We do our absolute best to find preceptors so we can help as many students as possible fulfill their goals. In order to set yourself up for the highest possibility of success (and not have to sit out a semester), there are some things you can do to increase your chances of securing a placement.
Firstly, do NOT wait! The longer you wait to sign up, the less time we have to search for your preceptor. As soon as you know your rotation details such as your dates, hour requirements, etc., fill out a Student Interest form on our website. We will send you pricing information which you can review and then let us know if you’d like to proceed. We set up a short interview with you to make sure we fully understand your needs and then determine whether or not we have the capacity to place you. Once we decide we can place you, we send you a contract to sign and an invoice for the deposit. We will begin our search for your preceptor as soon as we get those back from you!
Another action you can take that is extremely helpful for successful placements is getting in touch with your preceptor right away. We have had many students in the past neglect to contact the preceptor we find for them, and the rotation falls through because the preceptor did not know the student was still coming.
